Plot Summary

Robin Hood (2010) is a gritty, action-packed reimagining of the classic outlaw legend, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Russell Crowe as the famed archer. Unlike previous adaptations, this version explores Robin Hood’s origins, transforming him from a simple outlaw into a reluctant hero who fights for justice against tyranny.

The story begins in 12th-century England, where Robin Longstride (Russell Crowe) is an archer in King Richard the Lionheart’s army. As the king’s forces return from the Crusades, Richard is killed in battle, leaving England vulnerable. Robin and his fellow soldiers, including Little John, Will Scarlett, and Allan A’Dayle, desert the army and make their way home.

In a twist of fate, Robin assumes the identity of Sir Robert Loxley, a dying knight entrusted with delivering King Richard’s crown. Traveling to Nottingham, he meets Lady Marian (Cate Blanchett) and her father-in-law, Sir Walter Loxley (Max von Sydow), who convinces him to continue the charade to protect their land from heavy taxation.

Meanwhile, Prince John (Oscar Isaac) ascends the throne, becoming a corrupt and power-hungry ruler. His ally, the treacherous Godfrey (Mark Strong), secretly conspires with the French to invade England, sowing discord among the nobles. As tensions rise, Robin uncovers a hidden truth about his past—he is the son of a stonemason who once fought for justice, inspiring the ideal of a charter of rights for the people.

As England faces invasion, Robin unites the barons, outlaws, and villagers to fight back. In a climactic battle on the English coast, Robin leads a successful defense against the French forces, proving his leadership and courage. However, instead of rewarding him, Prince John betrays Robin, declaring him an outlaw.

The film ends with Robin Hood and his Merry Men retreating into Sherwood Forest, setting the stage for the legendary tales to come.
